Company Report - GSI Commerce
Pros
- One of the most amazing Perl programmers I have ever seen is
here - Steve Sapovits
- Completely casual dress code
- Flexible work from home policy - important in these cold
areas
Cons
- The 3-week guarantee of consultants - they dont have to pay
the agency or you for your 1st 3 weeks of work if they decide to
cut you.
- Oddly enough, I worked there for 3 weeks, 1.5 days and it
appears that they are trying to get out of paying the agency and
me anyway. They seem to be making excuses for why I did not
belong at their company. At first they said I was not pro-active
about getting work assigned to me. But then I had written
documentation from the get-go countering that. Then they said
they had budget issues... and I never got any proof about this
from them.
-
They did not allow me to work under real projects in their
hour-planning/payment software. They kept putting me under training
and orientation, even though I did 3 real projects in 3 weeks
- WEB_DNSNAME, load schema reference removal, validation of
new database. But they kept putting me under those generic
projects and never giving me credit for the work I was
doing.
Overall
I am not the first contractor to be eliminated for budget issues. I
still dont know why they got rid of me. It's the first time that I was
eliminated in so short a time. I liked the people I was working
with. They were a bit older than the people I normally work with, so
they had stable social and family lives. On the other hand, I
evidently was badmouthed by one or more of them regarding my
performance in the 1st 3 weeks. And, being cut without any
communication from my manager there (Dmitry Volshonok) was fairly
rude.
